This beginner-friendly stocking pattern is ideal for beginner sewists. All that is needed to get sewing is some cotton fabric, sewing machine thread, and some bobby pins to hold down the material. Follow the pattern by cutting two pieces of cloth out using a ruler and rotary cutter, ensuring straight edges. Adding extra thickness can also be achieved with some additional pieces of batting.
Before stitching a long basting seam with a stitch length of just under 1/4” around your stocking, iron your fabric pieces. This will stiffen it and prevent it from flopping over when empty.
Turn your stocking right side out, pin it to a piece of cotton lining fabric, making sure the tops of both materials match exactly, then sew along their seam allowances. Remember to leave enough room so the cuff of the stocking can conceal the seam allowances!
Once the cotton lining has been attached to a linen stocking, trim off any excess fabric. Fold over and secure bias tape along the cuff edge with a bobby pin or small clip in order to help secure it as you sew along it. This will also help keep the tape in place as you sew.
Now, it is time to complete your stocking. Pin the cuff onto the upper portion of the hose, making sure its seams match those on the cuff, and sew carefully around its perimeter while being wary not to penetrate its front side.
